OUR BLUE HISTORY
Founded by Nelly Lennox, a passionate ocean advocate and marine resource manager, the Sayari Blue Initiative (SBI) was born from her deep connection to the ocean and her vision to restore and protect the fragile coastal ecosystems she grew up around. Her founding inspiration came from witnessing both the beauty and the vulnerability of Kenya’s marine environments — and recognizing the urgent need for community-led action to safeguard them.
Today, SBI stands as a growing force in Africa’s blue movement — a youth-led, ocean-focused organization advancing marine conservation, sustainable aquaculture, climate resilience, and blue economy innovation. Through education, partnerships, and advocacy, we are redefining how people interact with the ocean — not as a resource to exploit, but as a living system to steward.

Our goal is to become a leading blue economy organization in Africa — one that drives ocean consciousness, coastal restoration, and sustainable investments across all levels of society. We envision communities, industries, and governments making ocean-friendly decisions in daily life, production, and policy — anchoring sustainability at the heart of every action.
We strive to inspire a deep mindset shift: helping individuals, communities, and institutions see their direct connection to ocean health. By raising awareness, influencing policies, driving innovation, and catalyzing blue investments, we aim to create a ripple effect that uplifts both people and the planet — ensuring thriving oceans and prosperous coastal communities for generations to come.
